The Civic Building looks much the same on the outside in 2035 as it does in 2015, but has changed a whole lot inside. And the inside of the building can now become the outside!
The whole building opens up so the office workers can get plenty of fresh air and sunlight and to ensure the democratic processes happening inside are totally transparent. The staff have standing desks and the meeting spaces are flexible – bean bags are the norm for these. There are no printers – it’s a paperless office. On the roof there’s a solar power installation, a pocket park, solar barbeque and a launchpad: in 2035 council officers travel by jet pack!
There’s plenty of cycle storage and an autonomous robot tram provides public transport between to and from the building – anyone can hop on and get a lift for free around the town centre.
